In 2004 the Fund began the T3 program in partnership with CUNY. This program consists of three parts:
Overview of Telecommunications Technology in Transportation:
This is a 75-hour course especially designed for the employees of the New York City Transit (NYCT). Participants explore how technology is being applied to various operations and how their workplace has transformed over the years as a result of evolving needs and system improvements. Members have an opportunity to develop a conceptual foundation for the technology that will continue to change their work environments and prepare for career advancement.
College Certificate Tracks
- Track 1: Telecommunications Technology
- Track 2: Computer Technology
- Track 3: Electronic Technology
Each certificate track is composed of 3 to 4 credit-bearing courses. Depending on the track chosen, a member could earn 10 or 14 credits in total. These credits can be applied towards a college degree. (NYCT increasingly requires employees to possess an associate or baccalaureate degree.) The information learned in the three tracks of the certificate program will provide a good foundation for many current NYCT jobs. As technology changes, new jobs may be created which may also utilize the background knowledge provided by the certificate programs.
